My love affair

Sunday, Jun. 08, 2003 @ 10:48 p.m.

OMG I finally get to make an entry! I have been paroozing around D-Land just passing time. It seemed like nearly forever. But anyhow...

I got to watch not one, but two episodes of The Soprano's tonight. HBO you rock! Gawd almighty I love that show. What it is I just don't know. Before Soprano's was The GodFather. I was in freakin heaven. Now, I just need to go and throw in Goodfella's and I have a night made in heaven.

I don't think I have mentioned it before, but I am addicted to movies, shows, documentaries and so forth about the maffia, da mob etc. I don't know why I find it facinating but I do. Could be my family background (duh Italian, did you have to ask) There is just something about them I wish I could put into words. The crime, the crime is aweful (hollywood makes it entertaining), but this shit happens. I think that is what gets me.

Growing up in my grandfathers house has some influence I am sure. My grandfathers parents came from a little town outside of sicily (the name exscapes me) making my grandfather 100 percent Italian. It made life interesting. Food was awesome I can assure you that. The sense of family was amazing. Respect. Utmost respect. Being though, that Papa's parents moved to a small mill town in Maine, there was no action such as you see in the hollywood flicks. As a matter of fact, my grandfather wanted no mention of the maffia. Stikes me funny.

Someone once gave him a bumper sticker that made a funny joke about being in the maffia. He never put it on his car, no matter how proud he was of his heritage. He would say, that shit is nothing to joke about, it could get you killed. Odd. Makes me wonder what he knew.

Well, anyhow. I am all to eager to read about organized crime in America. The Italian Americans features, accents and so forth bring me back to a time in my childhood. The music, the same music my grandfather listened to. The catholism. Everything. I freakin' love it. Tony Soprano you rock my world.

Just so you all know, my husband thinks I am totally nuts. He does not share the same love affair with the hollywood version of the maffia that I do. He actually doesn't even like the Soprano's... the nerve! He just tolerates it for me! What a man!!!

Well, that is it for now. Getting kinda sleepy, much to do... but too tired to do it.
